Microsoft chief executive, Steve Ballmer, talked about the idea of buying Yahoo's shares still possible. As a result of this announcement Yahoo's shares went high by 17% while other Internet shares went down. He said about Yahoo's share price "probably thinks its still worth as least as much today." Ballmer also mentioned there are no partnership plans between the two companies. On Feb 1 Microsoft offered a $31 per share for Yahoo and later on May they offered $33. However, Yahoo refused the offer because it was unfair price. Microsoft doesn't interested in the deal and on Wednesday it closed at $11.75.
The Justice Department may put constraints or stop the search advertising with Google. Yahoo talks about merging with AOL unit of Time Warner. After Yahoo-AOL merging, Microsoft may will buy both companies according to analysts (Ballmer's Comments Bolster Yahoo Shares, The New York Times, 2008).
